Smartphone security becomes more important every day as we add mobile banking and other personal information to our phones. It is estimated that there are 120 million American smartphone users, however, less than 5% of smartphones use third-party security software and more than 40% lack anti-virus software. More than half of users do not use password protection. That’s a big risk when it is estimated that a phone is lost or stolen every 3.5 seconds!
Take a moment to protect your smartphone with some suggestions from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) found at http://www.ftc.gov/smartphone-security. The FCC has published an online smartphone security checker — a checklist of what users should and should not do to secure their smartphones. A variety of mobile operating systems are covered in the checklist — iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows phones.
