Criminals never take a vacation. When planning a vacation, pack these cybersecurity tips for safe travels:
- Keep all of your devices up-to-date, including anti-virus protection. If you are traveling for work, know your company’s information security policies related to traveling with various work devices that may contain sensitive information.
- Traveling by car? Keep electronics out of sight, and be sure that your vehicle is locked.
- Flying? Review travel restrictions and prepare for security checkpoints by noting how many devices you have so that you don’t leave anything behind.
- Be alert at rest stops, hotels, airports. Beware of shoulder-surfers, card skimmers and petty thieves. Do not let a stranger watch your belongings.
- Have a plan before you depart in case your items become lost or stolen. Take advantage of debit card controls that may be available from your bank via mobile banking apps.
